Welcome to Bigger Skies Mental Health
Still Struggling With Depression, Anxiety Symptoms, or OCD? TMS May Be the Next Step.
Bigger Skies Mental Health offers TMS therapy in Newport, Kentucky, serving Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.
TMS, or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, is an FDA-cleared, non-medication treatment that uses targeted magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.
No anesthesia. No sedation. No recovery time.
You remain awake during treatment, and sessions can take as little as 19 minutes.
Who Is TMS For?
TMS may be worth considering if you:
Have depression that has not improved enough with medication
Experience significant anxiety symptoms along with depression
Have struggled with antidepressant side effects
Have OCD that remains difficult to manage
Want a non-medication treatment option
Have a teen age 15 or older who continues to struggle with depression
TMS is FDA-cleared for Major Depressive Disorder in adults, including decreasing anxiety symptoms that occur alongside depression in qualifying patients.
It is also FDA-cleared as an adjunctive treatment for adults with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and as an adjunctive treatment for Major Depressive Disorder in adolescents ages 15-21.
What Is TMS Treatment Like?
You sit comfortably while magnetic pulses are delivered to a targeted area of the brain. Most patients describe a tapping or knocking sensation on the scalp.
You stay awake throughout treatment and can typically drive yourself, return to work, or continue your normal activities immediately afterward.
Most treatment courses involve appointments several days per week for approximately six weeks, depending on your individualized treatment plan.
Depression With Anxiety Symptoms
Depression does not always feel like sadness. It can also involve worry, racing thoughts, irritability, feeling on edge, difficulty relaxing, physical tension, and trouble sleeping.
For qualifying adults with Major Depressive Disorder, TMS may also help decrease anxiety symptoms that occur alongside depression.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
TMS is FDA-cleared as an adjunctive treatment for adults with OCD.
If OCD symptoms continue despite medication, therapy, or other treatment approaches, TMS may offer another option.
TMS for Teens Ages 15-21
TMS is FDA-cleared as an adjunctive treatment for Major Depressive Disorder in adolescents ages 15-21.
If your teen continues to struggle despite treatment, our team can review their history and help determine whether TMS may be an appropriate next step.
